Fire Company Drill....BELT LOOP!

All of the scouts that participated in fire Drill tonight completed Requirement #3 of the Citizenship Academic Belt Loop. Scouts MUST complete Requirement #1 and #2 in order to complete the Belt Loop.

Battleship NJ Overnight 12/5-6

We need to know ASAP if you will definitely be attending the Battleship NJ Overnight. Please click on the link below for information. This is open to siblings OVER AGE 6. ONE PARENT PER CHILD. One parent may NOT bring 2 children if both children are under the age of 9. Cost is $62 dollars a person. If we cannot meet booking requirements, this trip will not run. Parking is $12.00. Dog tags and pictures can be purchased.

Outdoor Activities

With your den, pack, or family:

1.     Participate in a nature hike in your local area. This can be on an organized, marked trail, or just a hike to observe nature in your area.

2.     Participate in an outdoor activity such as a picnic or park fun day.

3.     Explain the buddy system and tell what to do if lost. Explain the importance of cooperation.

4.     Attend a pack overnighter. Be responsible by being prepared for the event.

5.     Complete an outdoor service project in your community.

6.     Complete a nature/conservation project in your area. This project should involve improving, beautifying, or supporting natural habitats. Discuss how this project helped you to respect nature.

7.     Earn the Summertime Pack Award.

8.     Participate in a nature observation activity. Describe or illustrate and display your observations at a den or pack meeting.

9.     Participate in an outdoor aquatic activity. This can be an organized swim meet or just a den or pack swim.

10.  Participate in an outdoor campfire program. Perform in a skit, sing a song, or take part in a ceremony.

11.  Participate in an outdoor sporting event.

12.  Participate in an outdoor Scout's Own or other worship service.

13.  Explore a local city, county, state, or national park. Discuss with your den how a good citizen obeys the park rules.

Scoutfest- Many Thanks

Many thanks to our leaders who planned an awesome weekend at Scoutfest. Our boys were able to go mining, play on a pirate ship, run through a fort, shoot BB guns, go through a "burning" house, go to the archery range, make catapults, survive the rain, cook on an open fire, clean and do dishes in the camp kitchen, launch pumpkins on a trebuchet, go to a laser light show, throw tomahawks, and hike the most beautiful scenic trails in the country.
Not only did our scouts get to experience great stations, our families got to know each other and the boys on the trip got to bond. I'm looking forward to planning our winter camping trip and making more memories.

Rocket Launch 5/28

Pack 53 is excited to host an event with Pack 45.  They are bringing their Water Rocket Launchers to the Amphitheater Field at Radburn B Park, behind Radburn Elementary.

We will begin at 7:00pm on Wednesday May 28th, and will continue until sundown.

Each boy will get to fire his rocket at least twice.  You will be amazed by how far some of them will travel.  All the water gets shot out of the rocket on the way up, so there will only be empty plastic soda bottles falling to earth.  The only hazard is getting wet at the launch pad.

Some notes:

• There can be no vehicles driven onto the field.  All parking must be on the street.
• It is about a hundred yard walk to the launch point.  Bring a two wheeler to carry anything heavy.
• Each parent should also bring a jug of water (tap water is fine) as fuel for the launcher.
• It could be a warm evening, so bring something cold for you and your son to drink.

A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Camping Trip Father's Day Weekend

I can borrow tents from the Boy Scout Troop. They only have two person hiking tents (small). If you have a family you need to try a borrow a tent if needed. I will need to know by the May Pack Meeting who may need to borrow a tent.

June 2, 2014 - Troop 53 Spring Court of Honor

Cub Pack 45 has been invited to Troop 53's Spring Court of Honors.  This is the night that the Boy Scouts are given their ranks and Merit Badges. It is a Monday night and requires the Cubs to dress in Uniform. More to follow. 

Leader Meeting - May 5, 2014

Please remember there is a Leaders Meeting at the Dutch House on May 5th. We need to start at 7:15 and end at 8:30. 

New Camper Meeting - 4/24 Den Meeting

To all parents that have not camped before or would like a refresher course. We will meet during the Den Meeting on April 24th. I will go over the basics with you. 

Troop 53 Pancake Breakfast - May 3

Boy Scout Troop 53 is holding a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Our Savior Lutheran Church, 22-15 Broadway. Off Hartley Place. 8 to 12 noon. Donation of $5 per person. 

Pack Meeting April 10th

We are going to have our monthly Pack Meeting on Thursday. Remember to bring a paper egg carton, large handfull of dryer lint, a candle, match, and a plastic zip lock bag.

Updates 3/30

• Due to the weather, the Bridging will take place on April 5th
• We have the opportunity to do a community service project with the Memorial Middle School Environmental program. Mr. Cohen (teacher at Memorial) has partnered over the years with the Passaic Valley Water Commission to do a River Walk clean up every spring. This is the area of land that runs behind Memorial Park and Memorial Middle school. We have been invited to participate with our scouts. More information to follow.

The District Derby 3/15

Hello everyone.  The District Derby is coming up this Saturday at the Secaucus Recreation Center at 1200 Koelle Blvd. in Secaucus.  Entry is $5 and paid at the door.First place winners to race from each Den are: Michael Giancaspro Tiger, Anthony Zunno Wolf, Ryan Piccininni Bear, Ben Levin Webelos I, Gregory Cameron Webelos II.  Please respond back to Donna if you will be attending so I can send in our entries.

Bridging Ceremony - 03/29/14 Postponed to April 5th

Webelos II Bridging Ceremony will take place on the evening of Saturday, March 29, 2014, gathering at 6:30 PM.  Will take place at the NJ District Camp Alpine. This is a primitive campground so dress appropriate for the weather, including boots or sturdy shoes, and bring a chair and flashlight as it will be dark. There is limited parking so car pool if possible. More to follow. All Scouts Welcome
